The actor reprised his role as hot-tempered and foul-mouthed Tropic Thunder producer for the ceremony held at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios, Los Angeles.
Grossman was the fictional producer of the show and made several cameos, including dancing on stage with Jennifer Lopez.
Cruise's wife, Katie Holmes, was pictured clapping her husband's performance from the audience.
