Charlie Sheen has another month of freedom – after his assault sentencing was postponed.
The 44-year-old actor had struck a plea deal with prosecutors in Aspen, Colorado, and was expected to start a jail sentence last night.
But a mystery hold-up meant the case was merely adjourned until next month, leaving the Two And A Half Men star free to go home.
"We need more time than is available for us to complete some of the finer points [of the plea deal]," prosecutor Arnold Mordkin said in court.
"It hit a snag," he added afterwards, offering no further explanation.
Sheen is accused of beating up his wife Brooke Mueller at their home in Aspen on Christmas Day.
He spent most of Christmas Day in jail after being arrested on domestic violence charges.
At the time of the incident, Mueller claimed her husband held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.
Sheen, the highest paid actor on US television, is understood to have agreed to a deal which will see him plead no contest to third degree assault.
As part of the plea deal, a felony menacing charge is expected to be dropped.
The actor is expected to be sentenced to 30 days in jail – spending the nights behind bars and the days teaching actors at a local theatre company.
Sheen and his lawyers will return to court in Aspen on July 12.
